Continuing
along the right of way, we come across the clearest point of the line.
Why the southbound tracks have little or no debris in it's path is beyond
me. The northbound tracks have vegetation and plant life growing
in it's path, but not so for the southbound tracks. This abnormality
runs for about 1/4 mile, before plant life once again dominates the track's
path.
The rails and rail road ties in this area are intact. This area
of track seems to have aged quite nicely.
A closer look
at another washout area. The third rail wooden shielding is mangled
at this location.
This
picture shows how close some of the houses and apartment buildings are
along the right of way. I'm sure residents have gotten use to the
extended backyard and extra privacy that the right of way provides.
