A front
view of the New York and Atlantic diesel train.
Notice the multiple track switches in this one area.
The original engineers of the yard must have felt that there was to be a lot of train traffic and storage in the yard, hence multiple tracks and switches were incorporated in to the layout.
If the freight tunnel from New Jersey to Brooklyn ever gets built, maybe
the engineer's layout will be fully realized.
These two tracks
go out to the exit of the yard (to the east), and run to the gantry
(to the west).
Here
is one of the switches. All switches in the yard, and most of the
switches along the ROW, are manual. These are not electronic switches.
Because manual switches are utilized in the yard and on the ROW, there
are no signals on the route. This is truly an old-time freight line!

of the switch.
